It’s been a minute!
A quick hello to anyone reading. I have cooled it a bit on the deck buying in general, but this year bought a few key sets…not one of which I have actually read with or played with yet.
The Spirit Keeper’s Tarot from Benebell Wen. I love and appreciate her meticulous attention to detail and complete immersion into all that she does. This sold out in like 30 seconds, but she is reprinting in 2019.
Darkness of Light Tarot. This maker has great deals for decks with imperfections. Plus, it’s Italian. A bargain and Italian? I had to, and I see no imperfections on the deck I was sent.
The Vampire Tarot from Robert Place. I found this at a thrift store. They sort of knew what they had so it wasn’t cheap, but for a unique, out-of-print deck (in the original box with a book, seemingly unused) it was a total score.
I also scored a very, very cheap lot of four decks earlier in the year. It was the Elemental Tarot, The Light and Shadow Tarot, a Feng Shui deck, and. Lo Scarabeo Angel deck. I really bought it for the Light and Shadow deck, but the others are here, too, and I may play with them sometime.
I guess that is a lot. I love tarot decks and cards in general. I don’t have any that I really want to buy now, though if an Alice in Wonderland deck fell into my lap I wouldn’t complain. Metonymy Press is reissuing Thea’s Deck, but I have one of the originals I am happy with. I heard that the Crone Deck (Elena Lorenzi-Price) won’t be reprinted, so I might need to grab one at some point. Oh, and I am not sure why I still haven’t bought the Tarot de St. Croix. It’s been on my radar for a long while now.
What do I actually use when I read? there are four I use regularly. My standby everyday favorite is the Universal Waite. I also use the Slow Holler deck, Thea’s Tarot, and the Vertigo Tarot regularly (this one I have had since it came out in the 90s). I used to use Shining Tribe and Dreaming Way a lot, but it’s been a minute. I dream of finding my first ever deck—Sacred Rose, purchased at Either/Or Bookstore in Hermosa Beach in the 80s—somewhere in a box under the house, where I think it must be. Maybe one day.
Ciao for niao, friends and fiends.
